Thessaloniki International Airport “Macedonia”
3 Hours Before Flight Time
Arrival at Thessaloniki airport (Macedonia International Airport). Our driver will be waiting for the travelers at the airport to take them to the hotel in Thessaloniki for the check in. City tour passing through the main sights: the old town, the Byzantine church of Agios Dimitrios, the Arch of Galerius, the Rotonda, the lively city center and the interesting Archeological museum. Check in the hotel. In the evening there will be a welcome meeting with the group leader. Travelers will receive the detailed agenda and download mobile application of tour.
Souvlaki experience & wine tasting. Experience Thessaloniki nightlife and the finest food in the city. The best souvlaki in town (along with the famous Greek salad, of course) will be served in a traditional tavern. After the meal travelers will enjoy a wine tasting experience at a cozy wine bar.
After breakfast departure to Western Macedonia. Stopover in Vergina for a short tour (A shocking experience for travelers which take them back to the era of mighty Macedonian state and magnificence of Alexander the Great, the place of the Royal Tombs, where you see the King’s mausoleum and the famous museum with finds of the Tombs of King Philippos II, father of Alexander the Great. The travelers will visit the most important remains of the monumental palace of the Kingdom of Macedonia, lavishly decorated with mosaics and painted stuccoes, and the burial ground with more than 300 tumuli, some of which date from the 11th century B.C.)
Transfer to Velvendos, a small traditional village near to Kozani, with stone built houses and Byzantine monuments where there is the local winery Vogiatzi Estate. Meeting with the owner and visiting the vineyard and the winery tasting the local wines.
Passing through the impressive bridge of the Polifitos lake the participants visit the small village Neraida with magnificent view for a coffee and late evening they arrive in Siatista for overnight. Dinner in a local traditional tavern.
After breakfast the group visit the local winery Diamanti. The barrel room contains over 500 oak barrels, in which the red wines mature; rare, collectible bottles are available at the wine cellar. The travelers will learn for the production of the famous wine “liasto”, which comes from local varieties and the grapes remain for two months under the sun in special boxes. The next wine route is to Kastoria where participants will visit the Stergiou Estate. There the participants will tour in to the traditional winery with the cellars and they will taste the amazing organic wines which mature near the lake.
The walk will be followed by a visit at the city of Kastoria with the beautiful lake where participants can enjoy their coffee and visit the luxury fur and leather shops. Kastoria is the most important productive fur center in Europe. Before returning to the hotel participants will make a stop for pilgrimage at the famous Monastery of Panagia Mikrokastrou. Back to the hotel in Siatista.
Wine Tasting Seminar. Dinner at the visiting winery “Two friends” where participants will have the opportunity to participate in a wine tasting. A certified wine taster will present the secrets of wine tasting art. An unique and unforgettable experience for the travelers.
After breakfast departure for Amynteo where there is the Estate ALFA, one of the biggest and famous winery in Greece, with many international distinctions and certified wines. The vineyard is an fantastic ecosystem of 870 acres between two lakes (Vegoritida and Petres). A wine tasting in this winery is a magical wine-centric experience fully in tastes and aromas.
The next destination is in picturesque village Nymfaio to admire its traditional architecture, the cobbled streets and the nature beauty with magnificent view. At a small distance from the village there is the E4 path, taking visitors to a beautiful route along the beech forest of Mount Nymfaio. Finally, visitors should not leave Nymfaio without visiting the Information Centre and the Brown Bear Sanctuary of Arktouros, a non-governmental organization founded in 1992, actively working for the conservation of large carnivores in Greece and the Balkans. Sklithro is a small village near to the Nymfaio with famous taverns and optional lunch.
During return, travelers will visit Agios Panteleimonas for overlooking the lake Petres or go for a walk along the lake’s bank. The lake of Petres is a protected area under the European program Natura, due to the presence of predatory birds and other rare bird species. The program aims at the protection of the rare species of birds and the conservation of the wildlife sanctuary. The travelers can buy local wines from many traditional wineries. Back to hotel in Siatista, dinner and overnight.
After breakfast travelers will be transferred to the airport for the return flight. Stopover in Kozani for a visit to the village Krokos where the precious and famous “saffron”, one of the most expensive Greek spices, is produced.
The participants will have experienced the wine roads of Western Macedonia and received a lot of knowledge for them. They are given the opportunity to see the amazing mainland Greece. Also, they will have enjoyed Greek wines and Greek gastronomy and they will have gained extraordinary experiences of Greek music and dances.
It is almost certain they will soon return to another V-travel tour & trip……..
